Sunday Is Family Fun Day

On our walk to breakfast, I had the boys pose here. The sign makes me laugh.  It’s not the site of just any scene.  It was a sleazy scene.

We met Monique, Frankie, Camille, Mom and Dad at Richard Walker’s Pancake House.  The restaurant was really busy, the quarters were tight and the food was delicious.  I practically sat in the lap of the folks in the next table to take this picture.

Then we boarded a metro for the Mission.

When we passed here, Monique joked, “Forget Mass.  Let’s go shopping!”

Camille’s school project was the impetus for this part of our trip.  I’m so glad she chose to study The Mission of San Diego de Alcala.

While we waited, Walker was my dad’s IT guy.  Note how tall Walker is next to my dad!

We had to wait on the station about halfway to the Mission for another train.  Grandma’s gift of scratch art helped pass the time.

We arrived in time for 11 am mass in the mission building.  It was old and full of rich history as were the grounds we walked afterwards.

This was the chapel.

Around 1 pm, Walker and I parted ways to head back to the Convention Center to meet Michelle and Bill.  The four of us (and thousands of others) heard Hillary Clinton speak.

Hillary is a very dynamic speaker.  Besides her poise under pressure and even some unexpected heckling, she delivered an invigorating talk about literacy and the importance of reading.  The lecture was one of the highlights of the trip for me.

We wrapped up the evening with Sunday night dinner back in Old Town.  My dad and mom treated us at their favorite Mexican restaurant with big margaritas and homemade tortillas.  That’s right.  We get to go back to San Diego another time for Bill’s favorite. We had full and happy bellies all the same and we are excited to spend another two days together.
