How exciting is it to say that we went to the final game of the NCAA National Championship? We did and it was even hosted in our own backyard at the Evansville Ford Center.
We got there plenty early so we could find our seats. We wanted to be sure we found them.
The crowds started to file in for the Florida State vs. Indiana University of Pennsylvania game. What, you don’t recall that match up?
Well, maybe that’s because we were at the NCAA Division II Championship Game.
We had no vested interest in either team but wanted the boys to have the experience of being at a championship game. There was a pair of gentlemen who sat behind us who were truly college basketball fans. As we eavesdropped on their game time chat, we were educated quite a bit on the players. They were well versed about all of the players and none of them were even from our local area. They were just avid basketball fans.
The hoopla was fun and the game was entertaining even though Florida State won by quite a bit. Their plays seemed choreographed and they hit almost all of their three point shots. Our backseat educators discussed how the IUP team is mostly juniors who will have another year together while FSU was a team of seniors. The extra year of playing together paid off in their case. Regardless, to make it to the championships is no small feat. I have heard that the championships will be back in a few years and I bet we will spectators once again.
How exciting!!
Lucky boys!
I think a Championship is a fun experience, no matter the “level” of play!
