Backing up a little, with Bill and Walker away at a scout campout, Mason had Grandma and Papa all to himself. They had lunch with him at school on Friday. Mason and his friends kept the mood light and silly.
Saturday they joined us for fencing and we enjoyed a nice and relaxing day.
Meanwhile, Bill and Walker were up at Toyota’s assembly plant in Princeton for a three day, two night STEM camporee. One of the main objectives they accomplished was building over 400 bluebird boxes in a single day. Toyota created work instruction sheets that broke down assembly into stages just like they use to build their vehicles. These birdhouses were designed for Eastern bluebirds, native to Evansville but whose natural habitat is disappearing. These boxes will be installed around the area.
I got a few photos of the activities from Bill which basically indicated that the event was large and well attended. Toyota employees were very hands on and helped teach the scouts a lot about science, math, engineering and technology. They even got to see how 3D printers were used and they came home with 3D printed sliders.
When the boys returned Sunday night, we celebrated Walker’s birthday as a family.
He had quite the collection of gifts this year.
Reflecting his latest loves, Kim gave him a Minecraft pillow.
He received a new webcam and a snowball microphone.
Since he has been doing so much scouting and camping, a hatchet was in order.
To further his improvement for in cake decorating, he received an assortment of Wilton tips and supplies.
There were also quite a few new books in the pile.
We wish Walker all the best in the upcoming year.
