Thanks to Covid-19, the Evansville Half Marathon is being held virtually this year. It’s a wise decision since it brings together a large number of people huffing and puffing side by side. I still signed up for the race for two reasons. First of all, I wanted to support our local YMCA and secondly, it’s a Fall tradition for me. I have run it for twelve of the last fourteen years.
Participation was pretty easy. All I had to do was pay the race fee, run any half marathon distance and then report my time by Saturday, October 17, 2020.
I got up early this morning and by 5 am I was out the door. I walked the first 6.5 miles, came home and decided I better pick up the pace. Out the door again, I walked and ran the last 6.75 miles. I am so grateful t my friend Sandy. We spent an hour on the phone and she brought me across the finish line.
This was my slowest half marathon time ever. I had not trained for this race AT ALL so I am choosing to celebrate the accomplishment and file the experience under 2020*, the year of all the exceptions.
My niece did a virtual marathon on Saturday! I don’t know how she did it without the race atmosphere! Many family and friends showed up along the route…but still!
