We spent our last day in LA doing something that was right up Mason’s alley. We toured the Warner Bros. Studio in Burbank.
Bill found a great local’s breakfast spot called Bea Bea’s. They had an extensive menu with something for everyone (including me who likes lunch things rather than the typical big breakfast fare).
We had an engaging, friendly and knowledgeable guide at the studios. She customized the tour based on her guests’ interests and had a extensive knowledge about TV and movie trivia. The two hour tour included a visit to the backlots and studio stages and featured artifacts from DC Universe
like the suit from the Flash
and Wonder Woman’s costume.
They featured an large collection of memorabilia, paraphernalia and costumes from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
as well as vehicles from The Batcave and Batmobile.
On the studio tour, we learned how many things are multipurpose and restaged for various shows and movies. For example, this swamp was used in both The Muppets Movie and Pee Wee’s Big Adventure.
Warner Bros. has a huge prop house with all kinds of interesting things. Shows and movies check them out by tagging them. I could have spent a lot of time wandering here looking all all the things that give character to the sets.
Ellen’s Studio was all decorated for Christmas.
One of the highlights for us was Big Bang Theory. If we recall correctly, a show has to have ten seasons to have a dedicated studio and its own placard. BBT had 12!
Being the fan that he is, Mason has watched the series from start to finish and it became a family affair. What fun it was to see the set for the Big Bang Theory and the props
as well as their costumes!
We ended on a high note with an Academy Award.
After our tour, we stopped at a Poke place for lunch and then headed to the airport to wait for our flight. We had plenty of time and eventually boarded our plane. We landed after 11 PM and then drove home. It was a very fast trip but one to be thankful for.
I could do this tour over and over and over. If Stu’s dream comes true and we move to LA, maybe I will! 🙂
