Unraveling the Mystery

My Mother’s Day gift was presented as a series of clues and thus, I’ll tag the steps of our Memorial Day weekend with those references.

We started off super early on the road with a stop at Starbucks.  That was the *$ from clue #1.   I knew were were going north to Chicago because clue #2 was a Highway 41 sign and clue #6 was the bean.   We stopped for an early lunch at Culver’s about an hour outside of the city and drove directly to the lakefront to pick up our XT Series.  Clue #5 was a Segway tour.  We got a few lessons on safe riding before they set us free on the open sidewalk.

The tour lasted about two and a half hours and was sooooo much fun! We rode on paths all along the lake, stopping periodically so our guide could share historical and municipal information.

About halfway into the tour, we stopped at the Shedd Aquarium for a break and a beverage.

The Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Seas exhibit caught my eye.  Gertrude the Penguin was constructed from debris found on Pacific Coast beaches.  It’s amazing how trash was incorporated into the sculpture.

After the tour, we checked into the Hilton on Michigan Avenue.  Bill had stayed at this hotel for the AAP and recommended the nearby Nepal House for dinner.  Though there are a lot in similarities of Nepali and Indian food, there are differences in the bases for the curries and the spices they use.  We tried some new dishes: vegetable momo (Nepali vegetable dumplings), aloo ra seemi ko tarkari (potatoes and green beans with tomatoes, ginger and herbs), palungoko saag (spinach cooked with cumin, mustard and fenugreek seed, red chili and ginger), bhuteko kauli (cauliflower cooked with tomatoes and Nepali spices) and rice.

We turned in on the early side because we had a full day planned for tomorrow.
