My desire to reduce my stash has been a driving force behind whatever I have chosen to make for my craft swap and this round was no different. In the past, I had toyed with the idea of making aprons but looking at my stash, I didn’t really think I had enough yardage of the right kinds of fabrics for aprons. But then, I remembered I had something else I could use.
Several years ago I started saving old jeans that were no longer suitable for outside wear. I had plenty on hand and the right yardage of coordinating fabrics in my stash. I searched and found a tutorial for recycling jeans into denim aprons and off I went.
I modified the tutorial so that my ties are adjustable. I also made sure the ties were long enough to wrap around the back to the front. (I hate when my ties fall into places they don’t belong.)
Each pair of jeans makes two aprons so I was able to use up five pairs for the ten aprons I made. I used nine unique fabrics and duplicated only the pink and white in the one below. I earmarked a pink one for myself.
One of my favorite details was the Levi tag that I was able to preserve from the pocket. This apron also has a design feature of a two-color tie. It’s how I dealt with a shortage of the red and blue stars.
Pockets are fun to have on aprons in case you need to tuck your phone away while you cook.
They are all ready to be packed up and swapped tomorrow.
I have the eight I need for the swap and two earmarked for gifts. I’m looking forward to seeing what I get in exchange.
So cute and so clever.
WOW! Very cool!
impressive! I have a cheap machine and I worry that I will kill it with denim. Did you find you had any trouble with the thickness?
Amazing!!
