We are fortunate that our good friends, Mel and MaryBeth, have offered to let us use their woodshop (aka Mel’s hobby barn) to cut and store the wood for Walker’s Eagle Project. Today was the first workday and there was a lot going on.
Walker’s chair instructions came with cardboard templates. To preserve their integrity, he made sturdier templates out of plywood. Together he and Bill stapled the cardboard down and then Walker carefully began tracing.
Meanwhile, Mason and Bill prepared a block of wood for Mason’s 4-H electricity project. They cut a 1 x 6” down to achieve a 5 1/2” square and then sanded the ends and routed the edges.
According to the Boy Scout guidelines, Walker is not supposed to use power saws due to his age so the cutting fell to Bill. Safety first. He donned glasses and then used the table saw for the initial long, straight cuts.
Next he used the bandsaw for any places where curves were involved.
Within a few hours time, Walker had a compete set of templates prepared for his project and Mason had a block ready to stain.
My job was, of course, to document all the stages of their projects but I did sneak in some knitting on a preemie hat. Talk about a productive day!
Eagle Project…..excellent! People think I am kidding, but I really enjoyed Matthew working through the steps of that endeavor! The deciding was the hardest part.
Your pictures are worth a thousand words…Bill’s talents have no end. Love seeing Mason with the router.
