One the eve of the knitting retreat last month I received an email from one of my favorite designers asking if I would like to test her latest pattern. I was smitten with it from the start because of the colorwork section. It was unusual and I was not sure how it was done. I wanted to do it but I was hesitant. I had been doing a really good job wrapping up projects, clearing the needles, in preparation for a sweater test knit I have been awaiting. I didn’t want to overcommit myself with multiple deadlines. I hemmed and hawed and ultimately, I’ll blame my sweater sisters for tipping me over the line.
I knit it pretty quickly especially considering I had to knit the entire colorwork section twice. It is done using a knit one below technique. I made a mistake about three rows from the end. I figured I could fudge it and no one would notice but because of where it landed, I had to redo it. I should have inserted a lifeline but I had gotten cocky and skipped that step. Lesson learned.
I am thoroughly pleased with the shawl and the new technique I learned. I have a feeling that I know who is going to receive this shawl when it’s complete. Stay tuned.
Pattern: Yorkshire Meadow Shawl
Designer: Jennifer Lassonde
Yarn: 330 yards of Plymouth Yarns Happy Feet 100 in the Olive colorway and 150 yards of Malabrigo in the Aniversario colorway. Both are superwash wool and nylon blends.
Beautiful!
If I could make a pattern, I would absolutely want you to test it. (don’t worry that that will ever happen) I love that there is such a thing as a “lifeline”. Well next time…..(kinda like when I sometimes forget to back something up…right??
