The last two clues of my Mother’s Day celebration unfolded today.
We started quite early with breakfast at Yolk followed by 8 AM Mass at Old St. Mary’s Church.
On our way back toward the hotel, we wandered through Grant Park and danced around the Agora statues.
The lakefront was bustling with bikers participating in Chicago’s Bike the Drive.
We sat by the lake for a little while as well.
Then it was time to make our way to clue #3 for lunch at Eleven City Diner, one of Mason’s favorite restaurants.
Besides my Greek salad and cheese fries for the table, Mason ordered macaroni and cheese with bacon and Walker had a grilled cheese with fries and tomato soup.
We walked from the restaurant a few blocks to the theater for the main attraction of the trip: Hamilton! This was clue #4.
Mason had been listening to the score for over a year and was passionate and persistent about seeing this musical. Although I am not a big history buff, I enjoyed it tremendously and given another opportunity, I would gladly see it again. I do recommend to anyone who is going to see it to read up on Hamilton’s life and definitely familiarize oneself with the music.
After the show, Mason and I returned to our hotel and Walker and Bill went for a stroll. Then it was off to dinner at Aurelio’s for deep dish Chicago style pizza. While we were waiting for our meal, Mason accidentally spilled a little water on the bench seat where we were sitting. Of course, I discovered this when I slid across the seat. When we asked him why he didn’t clean it up, he said, “I said, ‘Oops.’” Apparently, in the parlance of Mason, oops means “Watch out. I spilled water and I didn’t clean it up.” This became the joke of the evening.
The evening cooled off enough to enjoy a nice walk. We stopped for a while to watch the skaters at Grant Skate Park. The last treat of the day was an unexpected. I spotted fireworks being launched over the lake and I got to watch in my pajamas from the hotel window. It was the perfect way to end the day.
