A Better State Than Fair

We had the fastest turn around ever after camp yesterday.  We brought the boys home and within thirty minutes we had them showered and the car unloaded. We picked up drive thru lunch and headed north to Indianapolis to the state fair.  We didn’t want to miss the opportunity to see Mason’s project and it will be harder to find the time once the boys start school this week.

Side note—Walker never sleeps in the car.  They were both exhausted after camp but we were glad they got some rest before we arrived in Indy.

We passed through some of our usual exhibit halls as we made our way to the 4-H buildings.  Indiana is celebrating its bicentennial this year so there were even more Hoosier based displays.  This is “Cookie” the Indiana State Library Bison.   It is painted with artwork and imagery that reflects Indiana history, including the state flag, state bird, flower and tree.  Other details pay homage to materials found in the State Library’s collection.

The moment Mason found his project, he was thrilled.  Not only did he receive a blue award, he was also recognized with a special merit.  It is an honor to get to state and his face read proud!

All in all, we didn’t have time to spend at fair.  We got dinner for everyone, the boys rode a few rides and then we turned around to head for home.

For those playing the “hours driven in the car” game, it was two out and back to camp and about three out and back to Indy for a grand total of ten.  No one ever called us sane but some do call us devoted.
