Ad Altare Dei

Today Walker and Triston completed their Ad Altare Dei journey with a blessing from Father Tom after mass.  Ad Altare Dei is a Boy Scout religious emblem designed to help scouts ages 13 and 14 study the sacraments in depth.

Ideally, a group of scouts would get together with two leaders over the course of six to eight months to complete the program. However, due to the size of our troop and the ages of our active scouts only Walker and Triston were eligible and available.  Our scouts met every few weeks with Captain D, Triston’s dad and myself to complete the requirements.  At the meetings, we discussed the material in their manuals, read the Bible and reviewed the journal entries and reports they had completed at home.  They also attended a weekend retreat while working on the program.

We started the last weekend of November 2016 and the boys (finally) had their official board of review with the religious coordinator at the end of September.  I am proud of their hard work.

Though at times the meeting felt like another obligation in our already busy schedules, we all agree that it was a good experience.  My understanding and appreciation of our faith increased and I bet the boys would say the same.
