Boy Scout Retreat

Group

Once again our troop participated in the retreat planned by the Diocesan Catholic Committee.

The theme this year was aspects of Mary and specifically, this verse: “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.” (Luke 1:30)

We had quite a number of scouts in attendance.  In fact, our troop may have had the largest number with eleven scouts and two leaders.  It was wonderful that so many of our newest crossover scouts attended.

The weekend was a mixture of prayerful talks about Mary, singing, spiritual activities, Mass and Adoration.

They learned about the Seven Sorrows Rosary, made one of their own and prayed it throughout the weekend.

The food was plentiful but dessert was the highlight.

Sunday morning Bill, Walker and I went up to the Catholic Center for the closing celebration and Mass.  The two scouts from our diocese (who also happen to be in our troop) shared about their experience doing the St. George Trek at Philmont.  Listening to their experiences of hiking for ten days made me eager to visit that area and do the hike myself.  Maybe one day we will do it as a family…

The closing mass was celebrated by our new bishop, Bishop Joseph Siebert.  He recognized all the scouts who had earned the Ad Altare Dei medals this year.

The reports I got were that it was a good weekend.  I hope we can return again next year with as many participants and more.
