This crew of scouts and leaders set off yesterday morning bound for O’Bannon Woods State Park, about 90 miles east of here. Camping is camping but on this particular overnight, Bill intended to help the scouts achieve some of the requirements for the camping merit badge. They did a longer hike with elevation change, prepared […]

Camping Close By
Our troop’s activities include camping once a month. The leaders decided that they would kick off the year with an overnight at our scout house. This would give the boys, especially the newest ones, an opportunity to work on basic skills and get them signed off before our court of honor next weekend. We do […]
Out in the Wilderness
This weekend Buffalo Trace Council hosted the Wilderness Survival Boy Scout Camporee up at Old Ben. Our troop sent a group of our older scouts and several of newer ones who had just crossed over. From left to right, Brad, Triston, Cole, Mason, Luke, Braylon, Ruie, Braydon, Mike, Tyler and Chris. The theme of the […]
Cave Men
The troop headed out to camp at Mammoth Caves this weekend. This big group was camping together for the first time as many had newly crossed over. These five are some of the veterans. They ate well! Mason is sandwiched between the two other hammocks. They did some hiking and had a lot of fun.
Camping at Camp
The weather was crisp for a weekend of camping at Camp Ondessonk but that did not deter the boys from having fun. Today’s group included Cole, Luke, Mason, Bill, Blake, Blake’s dad, Triston and Triston’s dad. They arrived Friday night and stayed in the unit of Garnier. Hiking, exploring, skipping stones and tossing rocks were […]
Fall Camping 2017
The troop went camping this weekend. It was the first time the newest members of the troop were camping together and also Mason’s first campout without Bill going as one of the leaders. Mr. Mason, Blake, Mason, Triston, Pierce, Cole, Mr. Yunker and Mr. Hershberger left Friday afternoon. They headed up to Indian-Celina in the […]
Old Ben Once Again
I’ll never be able to fill Bill’s shoes but this weekend, I made an effort and I took Mason to the Cub Scout Fall campout. (Why, you ask? Bill was out of town at a conference and returning too late to attend.) The Webelos requirements were on my side. Mason had to set up the […]
The Webelos at Camp
The Webelos 2 set off for their first den camping trip early this morning. Their destination was…drumroll…Camp Ondessonk. They went with their leaders and one token Boy Scout AKA Walker. Besides our family, only one other person in our group had ever been to Ondessonk. Mason had really talked up sleeping in a cave at […]
Gather Around
This weekend was our last Cub Scout campout of the 2015-2016 school year. If these campgrounds look familiar, it’s because we camped on the field behind St. John School and Church. While Walker and I were racing yesterday, Bill was setting up the campgrounds. All scout campouts are made better with a campfire so build […]
Camping at Fall Creek Falls
Walker and Bill went off this weekend to Fall Creek Falls for the monthly camping weekend. According to the website, Fall Creek Falls State Park is Tennessee’s largest and most visited state park. It is 26,000 acres across the eastern top of the rugged Cumberland Plateau and features cascades, gorges, waterfalls, streams and lush stands […]
