Out in the Wilderness

This weekend Buffalo Trace Council hosted the Wilderness Survival Boy Scout Camporee up at Old Ben.  Our troop sent a group of our older scouts and several of newer ones who had just crossed over.

From left to right, Brad, Triston, Cole, Mason, Luke, Braylon, Ruie, Braydon, Mike, Tyler and Chris.

The theme of the weekend was to focus on basic skills and understanding of wilderness survival while having fun.

The agenda included Friday Night Games and shelter building, fire building, trapping/tracking/fishing, water purification, signaling and rescue, and primitive cooking on Saturday.

One of the great things about this weekend was that it helped the scouts who attended earn their Wilderness Survival merit badge. The last requirement for Mason to earn his badge is just to improvise a natural shelter and sleep in it.
