Service with a Smile

I had another successful volunteer shift at the vaccine clinic today.  I worked with a lovely volunteer whose husband is also a physician.  At one point, she pulled out a needlepoint project and began stitching bicycles on a belt.  The heavens opened up and I heard singing.  I found my people. I reached for my […]

Healthy Service

This morning I had the opportunity to join the ranks of those who are working in the fight against Covid-19. I volunteered at St. Vincent in the vaccine clinic as a non-medical observer. The vaccine process is as such: folks check in at the registration table, proceed to the vaccine station, move along to the […]

Do a Good Turn

Mason and I had the opportunity to lend a hand on an Eagle Project. Joseph is soon to be 18 and joined scouts with Walker way back when they were cubs in first grade.  His trajectory in ranking up has not been as fast as Walker’s as sports, work and school have often vied for […]

Suds and Strolls

Our poor scout house has gone unused since Covid-19 started.  Our weekly meetings have been suspended and the only visitors were families who mowed and committee leaders at a recent committee meeting.  Bill noticed that the siding was looking pretty bad. Mold, mildew, tons of spider webs, dead bugs and dirt had taken over. About […]

Super Bowl Scout Weekend

It started with service.  Our troop has been hired for the last few years to help with an annual event called Super Bride Sunday. This expo takes place on Super Bowl Sunday from 10 AM to 3 PM and gives brides the opportunity to mix with vendors and service providers for all things bridal.  As […]

Lit!

One hundred fifty luminaries were set up along the walkways leading to the doors of church. Once again, many scout hands make light work. We tossed in a seminarian for good measure. Of course, night time photos are difficult but these capture a bit of the Christmas eve glow.

Making Progress

The count of completed luminaires is climbing.  They worked on them last Sunday, November 12th and again, tonight. The luminaries are made of vinyl siding with holes drilled out in a pattern.  The bases and tops are lids purchased from Berry Plastics.  There are strategic holes drilled and punched in the lids and bases […]

Fry It Up in a Pan

Several weeks back when the troop went camping, they began working on the fishing merit badge.  One of the requirements was to clean and cook fish.  Unfortunately, that weekend they didn’t catch what they needed so this week at the meeting they got a chance to do it with fish from a local monger.  […]

Haunted Forest Hay Rides…

It shall never be said that one child of ours has passed up an opportunity to spend time at Camp Ondessonk.  That being said, when the call for help with the First Camp Ondessonk Haunted Forest Hayride and Trick or Treat Event was heard, said child started vying for permission. The weather this weekend was […]

Fall Lodge Reunion

Walker couldn’t wait to get out to Camp Ondessonk on Friday night for the Fall Lodge Reunion. It was a full weekend to spend time with folks he enjoys at the place that makes his heart happy. The main goal is to do service for camp as the Lodge mission states. I’m not sure what […]
