This morning Bill and I left for our walk in Ferdinand later than usual. It meant that I ate my lunch in the car and not on the trail. That allowed us to focus just on hiking and might have paid off in a great outcome. It was quite chilly when we started but the Spring sunshine warmed us up eventually.
Once again, it was great to see the trails through the lens of a new season. All of the recent rain changed the landscape. There were part of our trails which were usually dry but were under water. In fact, the place by the lake where we have sat on the bridge to eat lunch was completely submerged. We had to go quite a bit off the route in that area to circumvent the unexpected loss of the bridge.
By the end of the walk, I had shed my hat and warmed up.
Our total adventure today was 10.05 miles in 3:59. We definitely kicked up our pace when we realized we were so close to a sub-4 hour hike.
When we got home, we streamed mass as a family at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, had dinner from Little Angelo’s and watched some family TV.
