Chinese New Year

Bill wanted to treat the staff at his office to lunch this month and decided Chinese New Year was the perfect day to celebrate. Besides, he is always seeking opportunities to expand the palates of these Midwestern folks who think we are so exotic because we partake in international cuisine.

2020 is the The Year of the Rat and I happened to have two rats I knit for the boys several years ago. What are the odds, right? The staff thinks I knit them especially for this occasion and we’ll just let them believe that.

We ordered some of the dishes we like from our favorite Chinese restaurant, Szechwan Chinese and I spruced up the buffet line with signs I made that identified each dish.

Vegetable Spring Rolls
Crispy rolls filled with mixed vegetables

Crab Cheese Rangoon
Unique combination of crabmeat and cream cheese in a lightly fried wonton

Pork Egg Rolls
Crispy rolls filled with pork and mixed vegetables

Chinese Green Heart
Shitake Mushrooms and Baby Bok Choy in a Light Sauce

Szechwan Fish

Chicken with Asparagus
Fine-cut white meat chicken stir-fried with asparagus in oyster sauce

Szechwan Style Beef
Fine-cut beef sautéed with chili peppers, vegetables, ginger and garlic

Shrimp with Orange Peel
Large deep-fried shrimp sautéed with sweet and mild spicy sauce

The luncheon was a big hit! Carry in lunches are big morale boosters and this one was no exception.
