Christmas Joy

There was a tremendous amount of excitement after we got home from Mass when the boys discovered that Santa had come while we were gone.  He left his letter and quite a few treats under the tree.  Apparently, the cookies were a hit!

It was hard to settle down for the night but the boys did drift off to sleep eventually and so did we. In the morning, they always open stocking stuffers while we make breakfast.

This year it was Lego Mini Figures plus a handful of Pokémon figures for Mason.  The boys took turns opening presents and we enjoyed watching their enthusiasm for each other’s gifts. Santa knew their current interests and left plenty of books and movies for each of them, camping gear for Walker and a few items that our animal lover, Mason, loved.

When Cromwell isn’t being held, he himself holds a bottle of black cherry soda.

One of my favorite parts of the morning was seeing the joy the boys had as they gave their gifts to each other.

Walker had chosen a Treecko t-shirt for Mason.  Treecko is Mason’s favorite Pokémon character.

IMG_3681Mason ordered a special Pokémon sweatshirt for Walker.  It has the legendary Mega Ray Quaza on it from the Delta Emerald game. (Legendary Pokémon are incredibly rare and often very powerful.)

Mason ordered it mid-December but it wasn’t scheduled to arrive until Christmas day.  Mason was overjoyed when it came a few days early.  Walker loved it!

The boys then gave me the presents they had picked out.

Besides lots of hugs, Mason gave me sapphire earrings and a matching necklace and several pairs of pearl earrings.  Walker went the route of knitting with several magnets and the best mug ever. It says, “I’m not distracted, I…Hey, Look, Yarn!”  I can tell it’s going to be a favorite.

Santa’s big gift for Walker was a Tokyo Flash Watch.  These watches are designed to artistically tell time.  There are many different styles and each one is read in a unique way.  Walker’s has no hands but when you push the button, elements light up.  (Click the picture to enlarge it and look at the bottom right corner.  It’s 12:25.)

Ever since Walker got his iPad Mini, Mason has been pining for a tablet of his own.  Santa brought him a Kindle Fire.  Oh, joy!

Last but not least, the boys presented their treasures to Bill.  Last weekend we trekked out to our favorite place for concrete garden pieces and the boys carefully picked out several pieces for him.

2015-01-17It was no easy feat to get them home and out of my car.  Cement is heavy and even small pieces can require two people to move them.  Such was the case here.  Walker chose the small pieces for the garden and he hid these inside.

Once Mason spotted this wizard with the owl, he was not swayed.  He chose it for Bill because owls are wise and so is Bill.  The boys did not officially wrap these but told Bill to close his eyes and then open them.  The wizard was covered with a large black garbage bag and tucked away outside. Thankfully, Bill never ventured out to that corner of the backyard.

The rest of our day was just as delightful as could be.  We had nowhere to go and we just enjoyed each other’s company and the opportunity to be in touch with friends and family.  It was indeed a merry Christmas.
