Covid Connections

Today was another happy volunteer day for me! Each time I walk away with some good vibes.

I spoke with Brandon, a checker from our grocery story. I asked him if he recognized me from the store but got a blank face. I tried to jog his memory by telling him that he always gives me recipe and price saving tips based on what I buy. That didn’t narrow it down at all but I think it’s just his  personality.  Recently he saw my feta and suggested I pair it with a particular brand of beets to make a good salad. He told me that since he didn’t remember me, it was probably a good sign that I wasn’t a problem customer. Ha!

I met a former Coastguardsman who was from Owensboro, Kentucky and was going to be stationed in Pensacola, Florida on a 210 cutter. Go Coasties!

I saw Mike, a neighbor from our subdivision whom I have only had a chance to wave at. His youngest child, Taylor, is Walker’s age and will be headed off to college soon to study medicine.

I met Janet Raisor who knew Bill from back in the days when he worked at Echo. She has lots of jobs but right now is the Executive Director of  Community Relations and Foundation at St.Vincent Evansville. She is the first Ambassador volunteering who strongly suggested patients complete the online survey about their experiences at the vaccine clinic.

Dan, the CEO, passed through and said hello to me. I’m always surprised that he makes this effort and even more that he remembers who I am.

My relief at the end of my shift was Mike Feller. I had not seen him in ages. We talked about our kids and the highlights of both Memorial and Signature Schools.

Lastly, my cohort at the checkout table was Lucy Himsteadt. She and I got along great and chatted up a storm. Six hours went by lickety split fast with her.

Tonight’s dinner was a delicious black bean soup from The Glowing Fridge. It came together really quickly and was delicious with tortillas chips and a corn muffin.
