Before Mason left for camp, I noticed he had printed out a pattern or two of the tenth Doctor Who character. He was planning ahead for handicrafts.  I didn’t think much of it, but it was clever since he remembered that using Perler beads was one of the options last year. 

There are lots of patterns out there in books sold with the beads and on the internet but if you want pop culture, you have to think outside the box.  It turns out that if a pixel art search is made, lots of hits come up.

For example, the one he took to camp looked like this:

Then he patiently counted blocks and transfered the design to the grid with beads.  The result looked like this:

Mason has been going like gangbusters making all kinds of characters and his concentration is really impressive to me. Some of these designs are quite big and they do not always print with a grid for easy counting.

IMG_5306He has a number of them done already and a surprise in store for his friends at his birthday party.
