Delightful Surprises

The pandemic had made deliveries more exciting than ever. Since we don’t curate our Misfits box, its arrival brings extra delight.

Underneath these greens we found butternut squash, spaghetti squash, kabocha, green beans, curly kale, poblano peppers, zucchini, celery, onions, rutabaga,  oranges, red delicious apples and D’Anjou pears. The mystery ingredient was the kabocha squash. I knew we had eaten it before at the Shabu Shabu restaurant where they just called it Japanese or winter squash.

Since I had shifted my Monday chores to today when both boys were in school, the day felt more productive.  I got an early start, mopped the floors and then made bread in the bread maker.  Each time it comes out well, I feel cheery. So many people have gotten on the sourdough bandwagon during quarantine (contributing to the flour shortage), but I’m pleased to make it the fast and easy way.  Since I got this bread maker for $4 at our church’s thrift shop, it delights me even more.

On the knitting front, I am making progress on the orange hat I started on Sunday and I got to knit virtually with my Illinois friends via FaceTime.

I also ran and walked today and felt the glorious sunshine on my face.  It was so lovely!
