Tonight the cub scouts serenaded a local nursing home with Christmas carols. We were quite a large group. It took us a little while to assemble and get on the same page (literally) but once we did, the scouts raised their voices and the residents’ spirits.
From my vantage point, I could see the groups responding to each other. The residents couldn’t help but tap their feet and join in and the scouts were excited to sing their favorite songs. At the end, a sweet elderly woman came over and touched me on the arm. She said, “I was a music teacher for forty years. Keep them singing. Keep them singing!” She smiled and walked out.
Once the residents were gone, we finished up our pack meeting with the presentation of a few awards and an unexpected activity. The cub master, aka Bill, pulled out a bag of white pompoms and told this kids this was going to be fun activity or a very bad idea that would keep us from getting invited back.
Then he told them the rules for the indoor snowball fight: everyone must keep one foot planted and it had to be quiet.
He set the timer for two minutes and said, “GO!”
The evening was uplifting and tons of fun. I sure hope we are invited back again next year.
I love Christmas caroling….and indoor snowball fights (although only in theory, since I never heard it before today)
Indoor snow ball fight! Fun!
I think they missed the suggestion that they be quiet!
