Merry Christmas from our house to yours!
Since we did not go to midnight mass, we all started our day after more sleep. I got up first, made coffee and started making our traditional steel cut oats with all the fixings. I still had time to shower before Mason padded out. The boys agreed they would be up and ready to begin at 8.
We started with stockings while we ate and then moved on to the regular gifts. This year the packages from Santa were all numbered but not named. He kindly left me a master list. The boys took turns picking gifts and doling them out once they learned who the recipient was. Walker and Mason had different strategies on their wish lists. Walker listed big ticket items and Mason declared he wanted lots of smaller value items. As a result, Walker picked up a lot of packages and put them in a pile for Mason. Ha ha!
Their gifts were big hits! We learned that Walker loves fun socks and that he is not too old for Lego or Yoda.
Mason declared that purposeful and useful gifts are his jam. Once he opened up his personal massager, we all got the royal treatment. He will also be sleeping well on his new Purple mattress (which was not an official Christmas gift but we did put it under the tree).
The boys spoiled me with multiple skeins of yarn, fiber related gifts and a large selection of hot sauce as well as an adorable vintage beater that reminded me of the one I used to use to make waffles with Oma.
Bill will be welcoming the aviary community with several new accoutrements to his feeders and is all set with a new Camelback hydration pack and several portable water bottles. He will also have the luxury of climbing into a bed with a new heated mattress pad.
After a full morning of unwrapping, we enjoyed a very mellow day. While the boys and I had Chinese food for lunch, Bill went down to church to help collect the luminaries. When he returned, we worked on our puzzle until it was time to prepare dinner. Bill went above and beyond and cooked up two trays of lasagna and a platter of cheese manicotti. We had Caesar salad with homemade croutons and the Italian feasts. They were all amazing!
Today’s Christmas left me with a very happy and full heart. There is much that is different in our world given the curtailed festivities and restrictions due to Covid, but in our home we were safe and all was well.
I hope that you and yours had a Merry Christmas too!
