Advent Day 24

It’s Christmas Eve! We are almost ready for Santa to come.  We had a lovely day.  Bill was scheduled to work at the Covid clinic but because it was not busy, he got to leave early.  That meant he was home in time to go set up the luminaries at church with the Boy Scouts.

Both boys went down with Bill and because there were so many volunteers, they were back home in an hour.

Later that afternoon Bill and I cleared the kitchen table and Mason joined us to begin a new puzzle.  The scene is ice skating at Rockefeller Center under the tree, something Bill and I actually did one year on Christmas morning.

We had our traditional Chinese food spread for dinner.  I know the boys love it as much as we do and we ordered plenty so there will be leftovers for Christmas lunch.

After dinner we had a Zoom gathering with Grandma, Papa, Auntie Laynie Sophia, Auntie Mo, Uncle Drew, Camille and Frankie.  The Sousas’ dog, Roo, even made an appearance.  It was awesome.  We couldn’t be together but we could all be in the same room, sort of.

To err on the side of safety, we decided to attend Mass virtually rather than in person.  Mason suggested we go to Thailand since that is one of the places we had hoped to be in 2020.  We visited Holy Redeemer Church in Bangkok. The congregation in Thailand was less conservative with Covid precautions than the Philippines. There were still many face masks but not nearly as many shields. At Holy Redeemer, the priest did counsel the congregation not to kiss the baby Jesus in the manger, just to bow.

After Mass, Bill went back to our church to check the luminaries.  It was so pretty to see everything all lit up and there was even a bit of snow.  I don’t think it will last but an almost white Christmas is pretty special.

Merry Christmas Eve!
