The mission trip kicked on Sunday with work days Monday through Thursday. They were based at St. Mary’s High School. Each day they rose to (terrible) music (blasted over the intercom), participated in daily mass and had an opening activity. Then they boarded the bus for their work assignments. They had lunch on site, worked until late afternoon and returned back to St. Mary’s. In the evenings after dinner, Walker said they hung out and played leadership games.
Each night there was a slide show. It looks like Walker and Andrew were busy with paint rollers.
One of the days Walker was asked to be an altar server.
The final day everyone wore their Catholic Heart Workcamp shirts which made it easy to spot them on at the various places they went on their free day.
For his mission work, Walker’s group was assigned to this family’s home. The grandmother had limited mobility and was unable to climb the stairs in her home. She was wheelchair dependent and was sleeping in her living room. Walker and his team worked to make their home more livable. They cleaned and painted the kitchen, repainted and put up drywall in the living room and repainted her porch.
Walker’s team was made up of four members from our parish and other teens from parishes across the US.
I’m so glad we could see the team and the family they helped.
Having completed all the work at their worksites, Friday the mission team was free to explore St. Louis. They started at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis. They toured the inside and the outside.
Off to the City Museum they went. This is a venue our family has visited several times but it always remains a winner. These photos were taken atop the City Museum roof.
They made a stop on their way to the game at the landmark Ted Drewes Frozen Custard. We have not had a family visit here yet but I bet Walker will be able to sniff his way back.
Finally, they made it to the St. Louis Cardinals game.
Walker sat next to our newly ordained priest, Father Tyler. They had a blast at the game and then returned home late last night.
The eighth picture down shows Walker with his halo!
What a great organization..
Sounds like a great week.
You got great pictures and info, too, for not even being there!
