Waiting for the 1 pm hour is always a challenge. The boys are always so eager to get there and so we left early to get a spot in the line. We were not first but we were definitely not last.
Once we passed through registration, Bill took Walker to get settled and I accompanied Mason.
The camp built new units this year and Mason was so lucky to be one of the first campers in Chiwatenhwa. It is a mouthful but we all learned how to say it. The animal mascot is a turtle and Mason and I jokingly made up a unit song as we walked there. My version of the chant went like this:
Turtle, turtle, we’re so fast.
Turtle, turtle, we’ll kick your (pause dramatically….)
Butt!
(There’s no swearing at camp except in the Three Jolly Fisherman song which we call the Amsterdam song.*)
Cabin 3 has 12 bunks in one of two rooms and Mason chose the top center bunk on one side. I really liked how it had a ledge to store his trunk which he could access from either side.
We met Bill and Walker at the lake for the swim test.
The water was cold but it didn’t keep the boys from passing the test. Yay! Then we were off to see where Walker was going to sleep for his week of Horse Adventure Camp.
Yes, Walker is going to sleep in the barn near the horses. There were about a dozen campers for this week and he was one of only two boys.
It was high up there in the loft but the view was super. They even had a window.
Then it was time to say goodbye.
We left Walker at the stables with the other campers and dropped Mason off at the path leading back to Chiwatenhwa.
Parting would have been harder if we had known they were going to have any less than an amazing week. Now we just have to pray for lots of pictures from the camp photographer.
*In case you are unfamiliar with the Amsterdam song, the lyrics of Three Jolly Fisherman go like this…
1. There were three jolly fishermen.
There were three jolly fishermen.
Fisher, fisher, men, men, men.
Fisher, fisher, men, men, men.
There were three jolly fishermen.
2. The first one’s name was Abraham. …
Abra, Abra, ham, ham, ham.
3. The second one’s name was I-I-saac. …
I, I, sac, sac, sac.
4. The third one’s name was Ja-a-cob. …
Ja, Ja, cob, cob, cob.
5. They all went down to Jericho. …
Jeri, Jeri, cho, cho, cho.
6. They should have gone to Amsterdam. …
Amster, Amster, shh, shh, shh.
7. They shouldn’t have said that naughty word. …
naughty, naughty, word, word, word.
8. We’re going to say it any way. …
Any, any, way, way, way.
9. They should have gone to Amsterdam. …
Amster, Amster, dam, dam, dam.
Could that be a Timex on Mason’s wrist? It takes a lickin and keeps on ticking!
Is that the first camp of the season, May 31-June 6? You guys waste no time. Although, I guess we were at the Hoover Dam and on to Vegas that day (5/31). Hope they had great weather that week.

Horse camp – that would be fantastic. Although I don’t think I could spend full days on a horse, but I suppose they do the other Catholic camp stuff, so no one hugest too sore!
