Camp Only Child with Walker kicked off with a road trip to Indianapolis. His big request for the week was to get a lot of driving in.
He not only drove, he chose the stops along the way. The first was lunch at The Tamale Place. This mom and pop restaurant features homemade tamales in a variety of flavors: sweet, savory, meat and vegetarian. A specific number of tamales is made each day and when they are gone, they are gone. We tried veggies in green sauce and a black bean and cheese one. They were delicious! If only they were local to us…
After lunch we went to the new Ikea, Trader Joe’s and the Apple store. Walker is pining for this new Macbook. We were just heading out from the mall when we spied REI. We stopped there and did a little shopping as well. Before we knew it, it was time to head for dinner.
Mama Carolla’s was a quaint Italian restaurant with outdoor seating. We enjoyed a twilight dinner on the patio next to a beautiful fountain. I ordered a delicious pasta dish with sautéed eggplant and portabella mushrooms tossed with capers, black and green olives in a garlic tomato sauce.
Walker chose Alfredo with shrimp, two of his favorites paired together.
The restaurant was exceptional and we’d like to go back with the rest of the clan. In the meantime, all bathrooms should have samplers like this one at Mama’s.
We finished up late and headed home. Walker drove until the witching hour of 10 pm and then we traded seats for the rest of the ride.
