Making Ends Meet

Back to Ferdinand State Forest we went today.  Bill and I hoped that with an earlier start we might make it around all the trails and complete the loop. We bought the annual pass for all the state parks when we paid our entrance fee. This will be a great savings for the rest of the year.

We started on the yellow South Ridge Trail. We walked and walked and walked some more.  At one point, we found ourselves on a Fire Trail and realized we had taken a wrong turn somewhere.  We traced our way back and jumped back on the blue trail once again.  It didn’t cost us much time and it gave us a bit more distance.  Then we stopped for lunch by the lake.

The bridge was as good as any as a place for a break.  That quirky smirk on my face is me thinking but not saying, “Please take the picture. I have a bit full of salad and I can’t chew and swallow until you do.”

NB. That marking on the tree is the lichen, not the trail marker we needed to follow.

To give a sense of what the trails offer, Bill and I both took a lot of photos.  Unfortunately, all of the trails began to flow together in my brain so I can’t definitely say where each was taken.  Suffice it to say, Ferdinand offers lots of sights to see in the forest, plenty of elevation changes, several lakes and trails that are in shade and sun.

  • I love this. I could spend days and days hiking! Also, the one time I accidentally got off the path on a hike was in California near the Griffith Observatory and luckily I figured it out quickly because it would have been a “bad lost” kinda thing….
