Out and Back

After several busy full work weeks, Bill finally had one of his regular Fridays off.  We prayed that the weather would cooperate for a long walk. Thankfully there were no signs of yesterday’s 5.5” of rain.  Instead, we had glorious brisk Fall temperatures.

We didn’t have a solid plan about distance but we knew we wanted to walk on one of two East/West streets leading into Evansville.  We split the difference and walked on them both! To facilitate a safer start, we parked about a mile from home off of Lincoln where we knew the sidewalks started.  We quickly fell into stride along the sunny side of the street and just enjoyed our conversation.

I showed Bill some of the democratic houses I see on my school drives to Memorial.  One of them had custom signs that have changed over the last few weeks. Their neighbor had full sized wooden letters spelling out Biden.  It seemed like there were more Biden supporters closer to University of Evansville but that’s not a scientific observation.

Bill has admired this corner home off of Lincoln for years. It is beautifully manicured and we both very much appreciate the look of flowers and greenery in rock formations.  We will save these as inspiration for our own landscaping in the future.

Half Marathon Walk

We continued up Lincoln, crossing over 41 and heading into downtown.  We let mileage dictate our turnabout point since Bill wanted to test his knee for a 12 mile walk. About six miles in, we turned around on Lincoln and headed West.  In an effort to gauge a bathroom stop, we walked along 41 until Washington where a McDonalds was.  Then we backtracked to Bellemeade for our eastbound return. Just before we hit Green River Road, we cut back to Lincoln to another McDonalds so I could pick up a cup of decaf to sip while I ate my trusty PB and J. This route worked out perfectly as there was just one short block where we had to walk on a road without sidewalks.

We were back at the car with just enough time to return home so I could head out to pick up Mason from school.

Total mileage today: 13.21 miles
