Big Things, Small town

In the spirit of spending time together, we decided to take Bill on a surprise field trip to celebrate his birthday.  Walker was our driver and Bill rode shotgun.  The hitch was that no one but me knew where we were going and I was sitting in the backseat!  Walker navigated purely with an address […]

Full of Sole

We never know what the weather will be like for the Sole Challenge but this  year it was warm and sunny. Tonight Mason started with a short run along the river and then he competed on the middle school team in the challenge course. He had his flamingo ready before the race and later it […]

Teacher Appreciation Week 2017

It’s been quite the week at St. John the Baptist.  The first week of May is nationally designated as teacher appreciation week and our PTSA tries to make sure we spread the love lavishly upon our staff.  While I have helped with it in the past, this year was my first at the helm.  Each […]

Zoom, Zoom, Zoom

It’s been a long time coming but the day finally arrived.  Bill got a brand new car! It’s a 2018 Mazda 3 and he couldn’t be happier.  For a long time now, Bill has wanted to trade in the SUV and return to car status.  Moreover, he wanted to return to a manual transmission.  He […]

Puts the Grand in Grandma

In a  collaboration between his language arts and religion classes, Mason was tasked to identify someone he considered to be a living saint.  Saints are people who truly did more than the average person.  They lived out their faith in all that they did. Some of them didn’t have an easy life, but they all […]

Friends Near and Far

Bill’s nurse, Natasha, had her first child on November 22, 2017 and Mason has been asking to meet Charlotte ever since.  Today we met us at Starbucks.  Mason has always loved little babies and he took an especial liking to her. We brought Charlotte a few of our favorite books to add to her library […]

Out in the Wilderness

This weekend Buffalo Trace Council hosted the Wilderness Survival Boy Scout Camporee up at Old Ben.  Our troop sent a group of our older scouts and several of newer ones who had just crossed over.  From left to right, Brad, Triston, Cole, Mason, Luke, Braylon, Ruie, Braydon, Mike, Tyler and Chris. The theme of the […]

Spring Band Concert

Somewhere in the sea of students on this stage is Mason with his trumpet. The concert was short and sweet. The fifth and sixth graders performed three songs: Centurion by Mark Williams, Majestic March by Paul Lavender and Gizmo by Ralph Ford. Mason was a little camera shy tonight so I am reposting this photo […]

Easter Festivities

We were barely feet back on the ground but we managed to participate with some of our traditional Easter festivities.  The church asked the scouts to build a fire for the Vigil Mass, not just any fire, but a BIG fire. A couple senior scouts were on hand to help direct the younger ones. For […]

Moving On Up

In the morning, the owners were gracious to make our breakfast earlier than the usual hour. We had fresh baked bread, delicious fried egg and hash browns, marmalade, honey, granola and fruit. Our new driver, Ivan, picked us up from the hotel and shuttled us over for our first big adventure of the day…tubing. […]
