Rained out!

IMG_8576This weekend was the Spring Cub Scout campout and we had secured a great venue at Angel Mounds.  We arranged for Father Joe to come out and celebrate mass for us on Saturday night which is no small feat given the priestly shortage.

We made all the plans but then we started to see rain in the forecast.  Rather than cancelling when the forecast started to turn against us, we put everyone on a wait-and-see status.  We purchased all the food and we packed all the gear.

IMG_8574Saturday morning it was dry so Bill and the boys went out and staked the camp.  A few others joined him and they rode bikes and toured the museum.  Around noon, the rain started to come, slowly at first and then the sky opened up.  At that point, Bill made the decision that it would be best to call the campout off because camping in the rain with cub scouts is just not much fun. IMG_8579 It was a tough call but we packed everything up and headed on home.  We donated the perishable foods to the food pantry and froze the other provisions for the Fall.  Hopefully, the weather will cooperate then.

Just before we pulled away, I snapped a quick photo in my new shirt, a gift from the boys for Mother’s Day.  Since I was the only mom out there, I had no competition.  Ha!

  • Love the shirt!
    Sorry about the rain. 🙁

  • My boys are now both out of Cubs and the Boy Scouts brave the rain. (Last weekend though they had to put everyone in cars for a little while for safety.) Eichs – I try not to think about it. Because when I do I remember the summer when Matthew’s camp-site was blown away twice in one week. (no one was hurt)

My mom-scout shirt would say, “only if their Eagle Scout dad is unavailable” and on the back “slacker scout mom”.

I was at the Court of Honor on Monday though! Joel earned his “Scout” rank and 3 badges. Matthew only needs 2 more badges – Amen!

How true! However they could have omitted one word and had it say, ” Best Mom Ever”
