Though many people know of the day preceding Ash Wednesday as Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday, it is also referred to by some as Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day. The spirit of the name is essentially the same: eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we fast. According to tradition, pancakes were prepared and enjoyed because in so doing a family depleted their eggs, milk, butter, and fat which were part of the Lenten fast.
With that idea in mind, I helped organize a teacher appreciation brunch for lunch at St. John. We used typical Mardi Gras colors as to tie it all together.
Silverware bundles were tied with ribbon and bells.
The roasters contained egg casseroles and bacon and the crockpot kept Irish oats warm.
Homemade cinnamon rolls, muffins, bagels and fruit were at this station.
This last table is always the one that garners the most praise. The staff loves dessert and we have some fine parent bakers. It was a successful and much appreciated luncheon.
