Tonight we celebrated the Covid-19 rendition of Mason’s eighth grade graduation from St. John the Baptist. It was open to immediate family only. Everyone was masked and we had assigned seating.
We were in the last row in the very back.
Mrs. Flatt facilitated the ceremony which included several scripture readings, a few speeches by students and then a commencement address by Fr. Tyler.
Fr. Tyler came to our parish when this class was entering the fifth grade. He was a newly ordained priest and connected well with the kids. Since he is now the Director of Vocations at the House of Discernment, it was a treat to see him.
Our new pastor, Fr. Dusty, gave the students a blessing.
Typically, we have a candle ceremony at the last school mass where the graduating eighth graders pass the light of leadership to the seventh graders. Tonight the teachers lit the 8th grade candles and sent them on with Tiger Pride.
No graduation would be complete without a class photo and as a sign of the times, they wore official SJB masks.
Mason’s cadre included Caden who’s going to Signature, Mason and Grant bound for Memorial, Michael who is moving to Arlington, Texas, and Ashton who’s also going to Memorial.
One part of the traditional SJB graduation that did not take place on site was the slideshow. The YouTube link was shared with us here.
Congratulations, Mason! We look forward to seeing you shine at Memorial.
