Sunday Stroll

We covered a lot of ground this weekend and especially today.  Bill and Walker worked on several college application essays.  After lunch, the rainy weather finally passed and Bill and I dashed out the door to get a long walk in. It was cold and damp still. We started our walk on Lincoln where the sidewalks began and continued west. We were fairly close to our midway turning point when we hit Alvord Boulevard.  This wide street held some appeal and piqued our interest.  It was much like Plaza Drive, another favorite of ours.

We walked north on Alvord until we hit the Lloyd. Located there was Harper Elementary School.  It was bricked and boxy and Bill felt it was an example of the Brutalist architectural style. According to one website, Brutalist buildings are characterized by their massive, monolithic and ‘blocky’ appearance with a rigid geometric style and large-scale use of poured concrete.  I had never heard of this before but I think he may be right.

Alvord Boulevard also offered quite a few homes of this cottage style.  We would love to do some research about the builder and the era they were erected.

We ended up walking nine miles on this cold and windy afternoon.  We finished up about 4;45 pm, picked up dinner and headed home to warm up inside and out.
