Here is my lovely group of friends who swapped with me this round. From left to right: Jenni, Jen, Cynthia, Shannon, Kim, Megan and Becca. In that order, I’ll show what each person contributed.
Jenni made origami fabric stars. She used batik fabrics from a jelly roll. The strips are 2.5” by 42” and interfaced to give some stability for folding.
Jen made beaded cross bracelets. Amazingly, this was her first attempt at beading. The neat thing about them is that there are 10 beads on each side of the cross, then a spacer, and then another bead which makes them perfect for praying the rosary.
Cynthia used a new to her technique called gelli printing. The process uses a gelli pad, acrylic paints, a brayer and a lot of imagination.
Shannon has a background in marketing and a love for photography. She went to each of our houses and secretly photographed our homes. Then she mounted the photo for us. It’s a super showcase picture and I’m glad she caught our house right after Bill mowed.
Kim tried her hand at dyeing. Each of the colors is named after a fairy tale. We were each able to choose a colorway and believe me, it was hard to choose. Thankfully, I know the source very well.
Megan made utilitarian items this round. She gave us each a jar of homemade laundry pods which are safe for high efficiency machines. I have heard about making my own detergent as this is supposed to be very cost effective. The other package contains homemade dryer balls made from wool and essential oils. I love the pink I got.
Finally, Becca made dream catchers. She is in the process of culling through her grandmother’s house and found lots of embroidery hoops, buttons, ribbon and yarn. I could tell she put a lot of heart into each of these and that made this item even more special.
So here we are again and for a quick wrap up, I’ll reintroduce each person and list her craft: Jenni (origami fabric stars), Jen (beaded cross bracelets), Cynthia (gelli printing), Shannon (framed house photo), Kim (hand-dyed yarn), Megan (laundry pods and dryer balls) and Becca (dream catchers).
Our next swap will wrap up in October and if I’m smart, I’ll get busy making mine now. Until then, I’m just enjoying the creative blips on my radar.
What fun! Everyone is so talented. Anxious to see the real things when we visit.
Fantastic projects.
We love origami here….and you know I love fabrics. I will have to google the concept or origami with fabric
Lots of cool stuff, but I especially love the gelli prints!
