The Hatdana

Hello there.  This is my hatdana, a portmanteau for hat and bandana.

The pattern was designed by Denise Byron because she wanted an accessory that could contain her locks.

Most people style this around their necks as is shown here but I had other plans.

Since my neck is always cold, I thought I could modify this pattern and knit an alternative to a dickey.

I extended the collar much longer than she intended so it’s more like a turtleneck and a bandana.

The front has three cute tassels and a lace panel.

I am mostly pleased with how it turned out.  It doesn’t keep the back of my neck warm unless I wear a collared shirt but in completing it, I got comfortable with a technique that had been giving me trouble—the tubular bind off.  Denise did a video tutorial that clicked for me in just the right way.  For that reason, this project was a perfect win!

Your knitting is amazing. I like crochet for the very reason, that you can pull out stitches if you make a mistake. No such luck with knitting, right?
