Mason’s Webelos den is looking ahead to the early part of next year when they will be crossing over to join our Boy Scout Troop. In anticipation of that, tonight the boys attended one of their meetings.
The meeting started with the scouts circled up front. After the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, the Scout Oath and Law, they dove into the meat of the meeting. The Senior Patrol Leader went over the agenda and they carried on.
The older scouts demonstrated and taught a few skills for tonight like geocaching, knot tying, and tent set up to give the younger scouts an idea of what most meetings would be like.
At the end of the meeting, the scouts circled up and sang a song called Scout Vespers to the tune of O Tannenbaum.
Softly falls the light of day,
As our campfire fades away.
Silently each Scout should ask,
“Have I done my daily task?
Have I kept my honor bright?
Can I guiltless sleep tonight?
Have I done and have I dared,
Everything to Be Prepared?”
Then they said, “May the Great Scoutmaster of all Scouts be with you until we meet again. God loves you and so do I.”
This was one of my favorite parts of the meeting. There was a true sense of brotherhood and fellowship present. The scouts took it seriously, that is, until they broke out in laughter.
Just had to sing it’s!
Great introduction to what goes on at a meeting.
Great group!
