Today was a mellow Saturday. After my morning meeting, Bill and I quickly scooted out the door and headed off for a longer walk. We started over on Lincoln Avenue and Hebron and decided we would loop around Wesselman Woods as we have done in the past.
We walked up Lincoln to Alvord Boulevard, over on Franklin Street until we met the Field Trail that leads to the Woods. Today we paid to enter the official wildlife reserve both to explore it and to take advantage of clean bathrooms. It will be so wonderful when our city reopens the public restrooms at parks.
Wesselman Woods was not crowded at all. We looped around on one of the covered walkways that had stretches named as Eagle Scout projects. The scenery was lovely but oh, were those walkways slick! We both slipped a few times and were eager to return to tromping on the natural trails.
We logged 7.19 miles and were home by 12:30 for lunch.
Later this evening we watched Mass with Bishop Reed via the CatholicTV Network. Before we researched exactly where this church located, Mason successfully guessed Massachusetts by the logo on the lector’s mask. Good work, Mason!
As soon as Mass ended, we piled into Walker’s car with the Christmas tunes at full volume, or rather, as loud as I could handle them, and we drove around Newburgh looking at lights. I had hope to make happen earlier in the season but we were still able to see quite a few homes. I have good memories of driving around looking at lights and my heart was filled with delight to share this experience with the boys and Bill.
We picked up dinner from Sakura on our way home and had a lovely meal around the table. It was a very enjoyable first Saturday of 2021.
