Today is the way we said goodbye to my 2014 Toyota Highlander. I won’t eulogize her but I will say she was a good car. In fact, I called her my good luck car. Despite several mishaps, she served us well and kept us safe.
However, all good things must come to an end and it was time for us to part ways.
We started researching new cars since early in the Spring. I knew I wanted another SUV of similar design with many of the same options. I was totally spoiled with my Highlander Platinum because it had Toyota’s top of the line features. Of all the niceties, the two that were non-negotiable in my new car were a panoramic moon roof and captain chairs in the backseat for the boys. Those requirements limited the pool of options. I test drove many cars and it looked like my best choice was once again another Highlander.
I was resigned to that when one morning, Bill came to me with a new discovery: the Volkswagen Atlas. It had everything I wanted!
Fast forward to the present. We did our due diligence, drove to Louisville to test drive the exact model we wanted and then put out bids to all the dealers in the area to see who would offer us the best price. In the end, my savvy husband negotiated with the local dealership for a 2019 model. The only caveat was that because I wanted silver and special wheels, we had to order it. We signed the deal in August and then proceeded to wait.
My new car finally arrived this week and today we picked her up. I drove her off the lot with an odometer reading less than ten miles. I have a lot to learn about new features but I’m excited!
PS. I have no idea why but apparently my cars have a feminine gender.
