Camel Lot

Unlike years past, this year our Christmas Program was a play rather than a series of songs.  The students performed Camel Lot—Don’t Miss the Manger which tells the Christmas story from a different angle.

Beth has been practicing hard for the church Christmas pageant.  Her dad (who runs a car dealership), may be too busy with Christmas car sales to make it to the program.  Exhausted from practice, with lines from Luke 2 swarming in her mind, she drifts off to sleep.  Transported by Beth’s imagination (and a sound effect of two!) we all “wake up” in Bethlehem on a very special day and in a most unusual place—the Camel Lot.  It doesn’t take long, inside Beth’s topsy-turvy dream world, to encounter camel shoppers, sales people, shepherds, wise men and a very familiar story told in a fun and refreshing new way. The two fifth grade classes were the main actors and the kindergarten through fourth grade classes sang songs to further the plot. Walker was cast as Beth’s dad for the first half of the play and his friend, Davis, was Beth’s other dad.  After weeks of practicing his lines with him, it was great to see the whole production.

Doesn’t Mason look enthralled with the show?

The change from once class to another happened midway and then Davis played Beth’s dad.

This last picture was taken in the second half after Walker and Mason had both done their parts.

The program was really quite uplifting and we left singing songs from the show.  That is a sign of the show’s success.
