I love the big smile with which Mason greeted us and that smudge on his nose.

Walker emerged wearing a red sash, a sign that indicated he had made it into the Lodge.  Lodge is an honor society for campers and staff who have shown their loyalty and dedication to Camp Ondessonk in an exemplary way. Accordiing to the website, through fundraisers or service, all members of Lodge strive to give back to the Camp Ondessonk community and act as ambassadors of Ondessonk’s values and camp spirit in their daily lives.

To get inducted into Lodge, you have to be voted in by your unit.  Every person votes for two people they think they have shown great character and have been helpful, friendly and generous. The voting takes place on Wednesday night and the Lodge ceremony takes place on Thursday night.  Everyone in the camp attends the first part of the ceremony but then the second part is only for the inductees.  What happens during that second part is known by Lodge members only.  The white band is given Thursday night to let people know who the inductees because they don’t receive their sashes until Friday night at the closing ceremony.  Now whenever Walker is at camp, he can wear that red sash to designate himself a member of Lodge.  He wanted this honor very badly so it was a big surprise and relief to see it had come to pass.

I asked the boys to take a picture together before we left.  The gaga pit was a great spot.  Now I see that the Tenth Doctor Mason made in handicrafts did a fair amount of photo bombing.  Do you see him too?

We had to take a picture with Walker the counselor.  We look forward to seeing him every year.  Walker the counselor wears a yellow sash with a blue and red border to signify he is the Lodge Chief.

I found a picture of the Walkers in 2012

I can’t believe how tall Walker has gotten since his first year at camp.

After retrieving all the gear, we made our way toward home for our post-camp tradition of lunch at Cracker Barrel.

I’m sure Walker, the counselor, is also amazed at how Walker, the camper, has grown. It’s time for another back-to-back photo with Gramma…
