Making Connections

Today was another rewarding day at the vaccine clinic.  I am definitely at ease in my role as a “non-clinical observer.” I sat with an employee from Surgicare and we chatted on and off while we checked people out and made their follow up appointments.

I finished up my hat with the Estonian Button stitch. I used a chubby container of sanitizing wipes as a temporary model.

Then I promptly cast on another hat using more scraps.  When I sit with my knitting in my hands or on my lap, the patients notice and make comments. So many of them have stories to share. Today an elderly lady stopped and watched. She shared that she couldn’t knit but she could do embroidery. Another gentleman told me that his mother crocheted lots of blankets and he proudly shared that he had made one himself.  Just one, he chuckled. I can tell when they speak they are accessing memories of their pasts with great satisfaction and delight.

Adoration followed volunteering and then it was time to pick up Mason. I dropped him off at the gym and ran to Costco. By that time, it was a rapid descent to the dinner hour.  Tonight’s was an easy fix with leftovers and salad and then it was time to crash.
