Covid-19 is introducing me to new words and expressions. Take, for example, don, doff and PPE. There is a protocol of how to properly don and doff one’s PPE; that is to say, one must take care when one puts on and takes off one’s Protective Personal Equipment.
Today Bill worked his first shift at the Respiratory Care Clinic (RCC). All of the patients from the pediatric practices in the Ascension group are being seen in that one location if they are experiencing fever or cough. The doctors from his group will all be rotating through there over the next few weeks. We know so little about how effective all of these protective measures are and the availability of the N-95 masks is so reduced. Since Bill was there, I was hoping for the best and glad to see that Bill’s face was covered with the N-95 mask, he wore a gown over his clothes and booties on his shoes. His mask was so secure that even an hour or two after he came home and a sanitizing shower, we could still see elastic imprints on his cheeks.
While Bill was at the RCC, we invited a few of Mason’s friends over to hang out. We felt it was the last opportunity to be with people outside of our family since Bill is now facing potential Covid-19 exposure. Mason, Grant and Ashton had a lot of fun as evidenced by the laughter heard trailing down the stairs.
Some of my gratitude from today includes my morning walk in 66 degree temps, bunny sightings, spring blossoms on trees, contact via text and phone with others, enough food in our house but not too much, making paneer*, and letting myself acknowledge that all that is happening in the world makes sheltering rather hard.
*More about that soon.
