We woke up early and had breakfast in the hotel: fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, cheese, chocolate crepes, rolls with butter and rich honey. Jose, our driver, picked us up at 8 am and off we headed to Mindo. On our way to Mindo, we stopped at Pululahua. This is a crater inside a volcano […]
Out and About Otavalo
The cement wall and gate surrounding Rincon de Puembo hid the treasures of what lay beyond. Once inside, we found beautiful grounds, a swimming pool, several courtyards, gorgeous local flora and many small buildings that made up the hotel grounds. Our accommodations were similar to a condo. We had two floors and a balcony. Bill […]
Heading South
South of the border is where we were headed today. Our trip began with a drive to Nashville, Tennessee and a flight to Atlanta, Georgia. We took a slight detour from the domestic terminal to the passport offices where we completed the application for Global Entry. After Walker breezed through TSA, he sneaked off and […]
In Our Words
A few months ago, the camping service director of Camp Ondessonk emailed us a questionnaire for an upcoming article about what summer camp is like from the parents’ perspective. Bill and I discussed it and then he responded. Below is the article that was published in the Camp Ondessonk Spring Newsletter 2018Camp Ondessonk Spring Newsletter […]
Cave Men
The troop headed out to camp at Mammoth Caves this weekend. This big group was camping together for the first time as many had newly crossed over. These five are some of the veterans. They ate well! Mason is sandwiched between the two other hammocks. They did some hiking and had a lot of fun.
Boy Scout Retreat
Once again our troop participated in the retreat planned by the Diocesan Catholic Committee. The theme this year was aspects of Mary and specifically, this verse: “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.” (Luke 1:30) We had quite a number of scouts in attendance. In fact, our troop may […]
New Stakes
It was quite a surprise to walk into archery and find ourselves in the company of these guests. The animals didn’t move but they sure were the life of the party.
Jim Gaffigan
For Christmas Santa brought the kids tickets to see Jim Gaffigan. We had watched a few of his comedy specials on Netflix but I didn’t know much about him prior to seeing him perform live in Evansville. What we learned is that he is regarded as a “clean” comic using little profanity in his work. […]
Crossing Over
Tonight’s Blue and Gold Meeting tonight was the first time in many, many years that the Selby family was only involved on the Boy Scout side of the table. Blue and Gold is hosted by the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts are their guests. This meant we just showed up! After dinner, the Cub […]
Knitting Pipeline Retreat
I hit the road after dropping off the kids to school yesterday. My destination was the Knitting Pipeline Retreat hosted by Paula. She lives in Washington, Illinois and hosts a retreat there every year. For several years I have wanted to attend but the timing has never been right…until now. Knitting retreats take all forms. […]
