Walking in Wesselman Woods

Our Fall cub scout hike took place at Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve.  I hate to admit this but I had no idea the gem that it was.  It is located on the back side of Wesselman Park behind a patch of trees, a parking lot, a big grassy area and a few picnic shelters.  I had driven past the park many times and always thought the Wesselman Woods were just what I could see from the road.   When we walked through the gates, I was struck with beauty.

Before we started hiking, we had a short lecture in the nature center.  Then Paul, one of the dads who is a botanic curator, led us on the two mile hike through the woods.

He stopped us along the way and pointed out various trees and invited questions.

I am glad that Mason and I got to explore a new place and experience the Fall foliage (almost right) in our back yard.
